Lawmakers to Unveil “GI Bill for Families”

WHAT:     Legislators will unveil the Military Family Educational Program, or “GI Bill for Families,” which would award educational benefits to the spouse and/or children of a Pennsylvania National Guard member who re-enlists for another six years. Companion bills have been introduced in both chambers: House Bill 1324 and Senate Bill 589.

WHO:       Reps. Steve Barrar (R-Chester/Delaware), and Chris Sainato (D-Lawrence), chairs of the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee; Sens. Mike Regan (R-Cumberland/York) and Lindsey Williams (D-Allegheny), chairs of the Senate Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee; members of the House and Senate Veterans Affairs & Emergency Preparedness Committees; Maj. Gen. Anthony J. Carrelli, Adj. Gen. of the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs; and Pennsylvania National Guard members.
